Six Men Arrested Following Violent Disorder on Wilmslow Road

Six men have been arrested after a violent disturbance involving weapons broke out in the early hours of this morning on Wilmslow Road, Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed they were called shortly before 1:45am today (Monday, 17 March) following reports of a group of men fighting with weapons, including knives and hammers. Several individuals sustained injuries during the confrontation.

The injured parties are currently receiving medical treatment. Police say their injuries are serious but not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Six men, aged between 18 and 24, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of affray and remain in police custody for questioning.

Detective Inspector Mark Astbury, from the City of Manchester Criminal Investigation Department, said:

“Whilst we do believe this to be a targeted attack, we do not underestimate the impact this will have on the local community.

“This incident happened in a busy area, showing an unacceptable disregard for the safety of others. Fortunately, no further injuries have been reported to us, and we were able to arrest those we believe to be involved immediately.”

DI Astbury added that increased police patrols would remain in the area throughout the day to offer reassurance to the community.

“If anyone has any concerns or questions, I encourage them to speak with our officers.”

Police are now urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or captured it on CCTV, dash cam or mobile phone footage to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting log 146 of 17/03/25. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
