A tragic crash on The Strand, central London, has left a woman in her twenties dead and two others injured after a van struck multiple pedestrians. Police confirmed the shocking incident unfolded just before noon on Tuesday near King’s College London.
One Dead, Two Injured in Horrific Collision
Emergency crews rushed to the scene at 11:41am after reports of a van hitting pedestrians close to WC2. Despite paramedics’ efforts, a young woman was pronounced dead at the spot. Another victim suffered potentially life-threatening injuries, while a third endured minor wounds and was taken to hospital.
Driver Arrested on Suspicion of Causing Death by Careless Driving
The van driver, a 26-year-old man, was immediately arrested at the scene. Police suspect he was driving while over the legal limit for a controlled drug. He remains in custody, facing charges including causing death by careless driving.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Officers attended along with colleagues from the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade. Sadly, a woman in her twenties was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing and a crime scene remains in place.”

The Strand is shut westbound from Surrey Street to Waterloo Bridge, with major travel chaos expected. Authorities stress the incident is not terror-related but have set up a large cordon.
