Two Rescued After Plunging Into Chilly Langstone Lake
Drama unfolded Sunday evening at Langstone Lake when two people ended up in the water, sparking a fast response from the RNLI and Solent Coastguard.
Urgent Lifeboat Launch at 8:51pm
The Arthur Hamilton (D-774) lifeboat was scrambled at 8:51pm after Solent Coastguard received reports of “persons in the water.” This marked the 6th callout for Portsmouth RNLI in 2025 alone. The crew raced to the scene without delay.
Quick-Thinking Crew Saves Two From Cold Exposure
By the time rescuers arrived, the two individuals had managed to cling to a moored boat but were soaked and shivering from cold exposure. They were swiftly brought aboard the lifeboat and taken back to Portsmouth Lifeboat Station.
On arrival, the pair were handed over to the Portsmouth Coastguard Rescue Team and ambulance crew for medical checks and care.
RNLI Hails Volunteers’ Lightning Response
Post-rescue, the lifeboat crew debriefed while shore crew prepped the boat for its next emergency. The RNLI, funded entirely by donations, praised its dedicated volunteers for their “rapid response and teamwork” that guaranteed a safe rescue outcome.
“The RNLI is the charity which saves lives at sea and is 100% funded by your donations. Our volunteers can only do this thanks to your continued support, and that of their family, friends and employers.”
Water Safety Warning Issued
This harrowing incident is a stark reminder of the dangers near water. The RNLI urges anyone witnessing someone in trouble near or on the water to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard immediately. Thanks to quick thinking and expert emergency services, tragedy was averted at Langstone Lake.
