Inferno Hits Blackburn Industrial Estate! Flames and thick black smoke have engulfed a factory site on Sett End Road West, Blackburn, sending shockwaves across town. The massive blaze erupted in the early hours of Monday, March 31, 2025, sparking an urgent response from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service.
Residents Warned to Stay Indoors Amid Toxic Smoke
Authorities have urged locals to keep windows and doors firmly shut due to dangerous smoke plumes. Emergency crews have sealed off nearby roads including Haslingden Road, advising everyone to avoid the area while firefighters battle the raging inferno.
Thankfully, the Royal Blackburn Hospital remains open despite the fire’s proximity. Lancashire Police are controlling traffic with roadblocks to keep people safe.
Explosions Rattle Town as Fire Rages
Witnesses reported loud explosions and an orange-lit sky as the flames tore through the factory site.
“There were loud bangs, like explosions, and the sky just turned orange. The smoke was so thick, it was hard to breathe even from a distance.”
Firefighters have deployed 10 fire engines, two aerial ladder platforms, and a firefighting robot to hammer back the blaze. Their focus is stopping the flames from spreading to neighbouring buildings.
Fire Service Speaks Out
A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said:
“We have 10 fire engines, two aerial ladder platforms, and a firefighting robot at the scene. This is a commercial building fire on Sett End Road West. At this time, no injuries have been reported. We strongly advise residents to keep windows and doors shut due to the smoke.”
Panic on Social Media as Locals Sound Alarm
Fear rippled through social media with one Facebook user urging neighbours to warn others:
“Huge fire in Blackburn. Anyone living near the factory, call them, wake them up. Tell them to close their windows, in case of smoke inhalation. Get masks on. Might need to evacuate.”
There are currently no evacuation orders, but the public is urged to stay indoors and avoid smoke inhalation.
Fire Visible From Seven Miles Away
The intensity of the blaze meant it was visible all the way from Accrington, almost seven miles distant. Authorities confirmed no injuries so far and continue monitoring the situation closely.
Investigation Underway as Firefighters Work Through the Morning
The cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation. Emergency services are expected to remain on site throughout the morning as they strive to gain control.
Residents should follow updates from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and local news outlets. Anyone with information related to the incident is urged to contact the police immediately.
