Delays at Port of Dover as French Border System Failure Forces Manual Passport Checks

Travellers heading through the Port of Dover are facing delays this morning as a technical issue affecting French border control systems has forced passport checks to be carried out manually.

According to an update posted at 7am by Port of Dover Travel, passengers can currently expect a 25-minute wait at the border due to the disruption.

“#TrafficUpdate at #PortofDover at 7am. There is currently a 25-minute wait at border control. Passport checks are taking place manually due to an issue with border processing systems across France. Thanks for your patience,” the port tweeted.

Cross-Channel Disruption

The issue appears to be part of a wider outage affecting border processing systems across France, impacting operations at one of the UK’s busiest passenger ports. The manual passport checks are slowing down the processing of travellers boarding ferries to Calais and Dunkirk.

Port officials have urged travellers to allow extra time for their journeys and remain patient while the issue is resolved. Additional staff have been deployed to assist with traffic flow and keep queues moving.

No Ferry Cancellations Yet

At this time, ferry operators have not reported cancellations, but minor delays to departure times are possible as ferry boarding is affected by the backlog.

Passengers are advised to check with their ferry provider before travelling and to monitor official Port of Dover Travel social media channels for further updates.
