Blast Rocks Kingston University Lab – Two Students Hurt

Emergency services scrambled to Kingston University’s Penrhyn Road campus on Friday evening after a sudden explosion rocked a research lab. Two PhD students were injured but thankfully the wounds are minor.

Rapid Response to Reckless Blast

The explosion happened shortly after 5pm, sparking a quick reaction from two fire engines and an ambulance. London Fire Brigade arrived at 5.47pm and had the situation under control by 8.28pm.

Students Treated and Safe

London Ambulance Service paramedics treated the two students at the scene before rushing them to hospital. Both are now recovering well, having escaped serious harm.

“Firefighters responded to reports of an explosion in a laboratory on the Kingston University campus. Crews carried out operations to make the scene safe. Two students were treated on scene by the London Ambulance Service before being taken to hospital.” – London Fire Brigade Spokesperson

Kingston Uni Confirms Routine Experiment Gone Wrong

The university revealed the blast occurred during a routine experiment the students had performed multiple times. Both were wearing full PPE and supervised when the incident happened.

“There was an unforeseen minor incident in one of our research labs on our Penrhyn Road campus on Friday afternoon in which two PhD students suffered minor injuries. Both students were wearing full PPE, and supervisors were present, ensuring the swift arrival of emergency services. The students have since been treated for their injuries and are in good spirits.” – Kingston University Spokesperson

A full safety review has already been completed to beef up health and safety measures. The university stressed that student and staff safety remains their top priority.

Ongoing Probe Into Explosion

Authorities are treating the blast as an isolated accident but continue to investigate to pinpoint the cause and rule out any further danger. The lab was secured and no additional injuries or damage occurred.
