Massive Dover Flat Blaze Extinguished After Overnight Battle
Firefighters Fight Through the Night
A huge fire ripped through a block of flats on Crabble Road, Dover, in the early hours of Sunday morning. Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) sprang into action just after 1:10am on 20 April, deploying twelve fire engines, two height vehicles, and specialist Technical Rescue teams. The blaze was tackled through the night and into Monday.
All Residents Evacuated Safely
Fire crews found flames spreading fast and immediately evacuated all 42 flats in the block. Thankfully, every resident was accounted for with no serious injuries reported. Two people were checked for smoke inhalation by South East Coast Ambulance paramedics but were treated and released. Dover District Council has stepped in to provide emergency accommodation and support for those displaced.
The KFRS Volunteer Response Team was also on hand, offering welfare support to firefighters and residents alike.
Fire Officially Out – Investigation Underway
By 9:15am Monday, KFRS confirmed the fire was fully extinguished. The firefighting operation was scaled down to two engines to monitor hotspots and ensure the blaze did not flare up again. Earlier on Sunday afternoon, crews carried out a systematic sweep of the building to dampen down smouldering areas.
The cause of the fire remains unknown. Kent Police, who are working closely with fire officers, have launched a full investigation.

Locals have expressed relief and admiration for the emergency teams’ swift response. One resident said, “It was terrifying to see so many fire engines, but it’s amazing how quickly they got it under control.”
Authorities urge people to steer clear of Crabble Road while recovery and safety checks continue.
