A 25-year-old man is in hospital after being deliberately rammed off the road and reportedly targeted with a suspicious substance in a shocking incident on a busy East London route in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Emergency services were called to Baffin Way, outside the Ibis Docklands Hotel near Canary Wharf, shortly after 12am on 24th April. According to early witness reports, the man was driving when another vehicle allegedly pursued him at high speed before deliberately colliding with his car, causing it to veer off the road and crash into a pole.
Following the crash, individuals from the pursuing vehicle reportedly threw an unidentified substance—described by some as a sandy or powdery material—over the victim. Concerns quickly spread that the substance may have been corrosive in nature, prompting fears of a potential acid attack.
Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service treated the victim at the scene before transporting him to hospital. His current condition has not been officially released, but sources say he is receiving ongoing treatment and that his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The Metropolitan Police source has confirmed that an investigation is underway. The police source stated: “We are investigating a serious incident on Baffin Way involving a road traffic collision and reports of a harmful substance being thrown at a man. The scene has been secured and inquiries are ongoing.”
One hotel guest who witnessed the aftermath told reporters: “I heard a loud bang and saw flashing lights. Then there was shouting and a lot of commotion—police rushed in and locked everything down.”
Authorities are urging anyone who was in the Baffin Way area around the time of the incident—particularly those with dashcam or phone footage—to come forward. Transport for London has advised drivers and commuters to avoid the area, with road closures expected to remain in place while investigations continue.
