39 Georgians Deported from Ireland in Major Operation
In a significant crackdown, Irish authorities have deported 39 Georgian nationals back to Georgia. The group was flown out on a chartered flight from Dublin Airport on the evening of Wednesday, May 1.
The plane touched down in Tbilisi early Thursday morning, marking one of the biggest coordinated deportation actions in Ireland this year.
Operation Fully Legal, Says Justice Department
The Department of Justice confirmed the deportations were carried out under full compliance with Irish and international law. All those removed had their asylum claims or visa status definitively refused.
“The deportation of individuals who have no legal right to remain in the State is a necessary part of an effective system. All appropriate procedures and safeguards were observed throughout this operation,” a spokesperson said.
Gardaí Back Immigration Officials
The Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) supported the operation, managing security and logistics during the removals.
Rising Immigration Pressures in Ireland
Like many European nations, Ireland has seen a surge in immigration applications in recent years. The government faces pressure to speed up processing and enforce deportations where necessary.
Authorities stressed that all legal appeals were exhausted before these deportations went ahead.
More updates to follow as Ireland continues to handle the complexities of immigration and asylum cases.
