89-Year-Old Pedestrian in Critical Condition After Beckenham Hit-and-Run

An 89-year-old man lies in critical condition after being hit by a car in a hit-and-run on Kent House Road, Beckenham. The shocking crash happened near Sydenham Road at around 5:50pm on Sunday, May 11.

Emergency teams including London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance raced to the scene. The elderly victim was treated on site before being rushed to a major trauma centre with life-threatening injuries.

Driver Arrested After Fleeing Scene

The driver fled immediately after the collision, failing to stop. Police later found the vehicle and arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody.

“Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance were called at 5.50pm on Sunday, 11 May to a road traffic collision between a car and a pedestrian in Kent House Road, Beckenham,” a Metropolitan Police spokesperson said.

“An 89-year-old man was treated at the scene and taken to hospital where he remains. His injuries are believed to be life-threatening. The driver did not stop at the scene. The vehicle was later recovered and a 24-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.”

London Ambulance Service Speaks Out

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service confirmed:

“We were called at 5:53pm on Sunday, 11 May to reports of a road traffic collision in Kent House Road, Beckenham. An ambulance crew and incident response officer attended, along with London’s Air Ambulance.

“We treated one elderly patient at the scene and took him to a major trauma centre as a priority.”

Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage

Police urge anyone who saw the crash or has dashcam footage to come forward immediately.
