Teen Battles for Life After Shocking Electrocution at Elite Millfield School

A 14-year-old boy is fighting for his life after a horrific electrocution accident at Millfield School, one of the UK’s most prestigious private boarding schools.

Chase Allen, a bright and athletic teen, was critically injured when he and two other students came into contact with high-voltage power lines on the school grounds near Street, Somerset, on Saturday, May 3.

Multiple Surgeries and Severe Injuries

Emergency teams including air ambulance, paramedics, fire crews, and police rushed to the scene. All three boys were taken to hospital for emergency surgery.

“Chase has undergone multiple surgeries and remains in critical condition,” said a family friend on a GoFundMe page that has already raised over £60,000 to support his family, who split their time between South Africa and New Zealand.

Chase suffered severe burns and internal injuries, with most of his toes amputated. Doctors are working tirelessly to save his feet.

“He is a real warrior,” his family said in an update. “Chase has a recovery day today and is resting ahead of his fifth surgery. We are immensely grateful for the prayers and support.”

Known at Millfield for his positivity and sporting skill, Chase won’t be giving up easily.

Investigation Backed by Health & Safety Executive

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has launched a probe into the incident. Millfield headmaster Gavin Horgan told parents the injuries came from “contact with overhead electrical cables” and warned the full scale of the damage is yet unknown.

“The pupils are stable but have suffered serious injuries,” the headmaster wrote. “We are cooperating fully with the authorities to determine how this incident occurred.”

The school, with fees up to £58,000 per year, boasts world-class sports facilities and notable alumni like former England rugby captain Chris Robshaw, Olympian Peter Wilson, singer Lily Allen, and even the King of Thailand.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson confirmed officers arrived on scene at 7:50pm and that the case has been passed to the HSE.

Community Rallies Behind Young Athlete

The GoFundMe page supporting Chase’s family has attracted donations from across the UK and abroad.

Despite some online debate over fundraising given the family’s connection to Millfield, many have praised Chase’s courage and the NHS staff caring for him.

“This young man is showing incredible strength,” wrote one donor. “The whole community is behind him.”
