Massive Lorry Crash Halts Traffic on A46 Near Newark
A huge lorry crash has slammed traffic to a complete standstill this morning on the busy A46 northbound, just outside Newark. The crash saw a lorry overturn at the Brownhills Roundabout, between the A617 (Cattle Market Roundabout) and the A1 at Winthorpe, causing chaos for motorists.
Emergency Services Rush to Scene
Nottinghamshire Police and National Highways contractors are on site working hard to clear the wreckage and get the road reopened. They’re involved in a tricky recovery operation and advise drivers to steer clear of the area if possible.
“We are working with emergency services to safely recover the overturned HGV and reopen the road as soon as possible. We appreciate the public’s patience while this is underway,” said a National Highways East Midlands spokesperson.
Official Diversion Route Announced
National Highways has laid out a clear diversion for drivers caught up by the closure:
- Exit A46 northbound at Cattle Market Roundabout
- Take A616 northbound
- At South Muskham mini-roundabout, continue on B6325
- Join A1 southbound
- Exit at A46 Winthorpe junction to rejoin A46 northbound
Motorists should expect extra delays and check for live updates on the National Highways website or local travel news.
Traffic Nightmare Spreads
The crash has sparked long queues around Newark-on-Trent, with delays over 30 minutes reported. Nearby roads are gridlocked as the diversion pushes extra traffic through local streets. So far, no injuries have been confirmed, but investigations are ongoing to find out what caused the crash.
Stay tuned for updates as emergency crews work to clear the scene and ease the traffic chaos.
