An inquest has opened into the tragic death of Samantha Johnson, a 36-year-old woman from Romford found unresponsive after mixing drugs and alcohol, East London Coroner’s Court revealed.
Romford Woman Dies After Drug and Alcohol Mix
Samantha Johnson, of Bellhouse Road, was discovered by her partner on the morning of January 25, 2025. She had reportedly taken an unknown amount of a Class A drug alongside antihistamines and alcohol. Paramedics arrived to find no heart activity and attempted CPR for two hours, but Samantha was sadly pronounced dead at hospital.
Toxicology tests confirmed she died from cardiorespiratory depression caused by the dangerous cocktail of substances. She also suffered aspiration pneumonia, indicating she vomited and inhaled the contents into her lungs.
Coroner Opens Inquest in Public Interest
Coroner Nadia Persaud formally opened Samantha’s inquest on Thursday, May 22, stating it would proceed in the public interest. The final hearing is provisionally set for December 3.
Coroner’s officer Jean Smyth told the court Samantha was last seen alive around 3am and found unresponsive nearly eight hours later.
Family to Get Full Access as Investigation Continues
Mrs Persaud requested a report from Samantha’s family about her background and any concerns surrounding her death. The family has been designated as “interested persons”, giving them legal rights to review evidence and question witnesses.
The coroner also ordered an investigation into whether Samantha had any recent contact with drug, alcohol, or mental health services before her death.
