Two Men Charged with Murder After Fatal Collision That Killed Child in Dartford

Two men have been charged with murder following a fatal collision in Dartford that resulted in the death of a four-year-old boy and left another man fighting for his life.

Kent Police were called to New Barn Road at around 9:30pm on Sunday, 1 June 2025, following reports of a serious collision involving two grey Ford Rangers.

Three people from one of the vehicles were taken to hospital. A four-year-old boy tragically died shortly after arrival. A 24-year-old man remains in critical condition, while a one-year-old girl sustained minor injuries.

Two Men Arrested and Charged

On Monday, 2 June, officers arrested two men in connection with the crash. Following investigation, the Crown Prosecution Service on Wednesday, 4 June, authorised charges against:

  • Patrick Maughan, 53

  • Owen Maughan, 27

Both are from Hill Rise, Darenth and have been charged with:

  • Murder of the four-year-old boy

  • Grievous bodily harm with intent

  • Attempted wounding with intent

They are due to appear at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday, 4 June 2025).

Police Appeal for Witnesses and Footage

Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate are continuing to investigate the incident and are appealing for the public’s help.

“We’re urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who has relevant CCTV or dashcam footage, to come forward,” said a Kent Police spokesperson.
