Dubai Visitor Dies After Brutal Attack in London
Mussie Imnetu, 41, visiting from Dubai, was found unconscious with a head injury in Queensway, W2, at 11.22pm on Monday, 26 August. Despite emergency first aid by officers and paramedics, he tragically died in a West London hospital on Friday, 30 August.
Suspect Charged with GBH After Fatal Assault
Omar Wilson, 31, from Leytonstone, was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 30 August, and was remanded in custody. Wilson is due to appear at Southwark Crown Court on 27 September.
The Crown Prosecution Service is reviewing the charges in light of Mussie’s death.
Police Hunt Witnesses to Fatal Night Attack
Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie of the Met’s Homicide Command said: “Mussie’s family, friends and colleagues in London, Dubai, Sweden and Eritrea are inconsolable after receiving the worst news imaginable. Our thoughts are with them, and they are supported by specialist officers.
“Our investigation is well advanced, but we urgently need information about Mussie’s movements between 1pm, when he left The Arts Club in Dover Street, W1, and 10.30pm, when he arrived at Dr Power restaurant in Queensway.
“If you were at the restaurant or nearby between 10pm and 11.30pm on Monday night, please come forward. Did you speak to Mussie or capture images or videos between these times? The attack took place around 11.20pm. Customers tried to intervene—we need to speak to them.”
Police to Fan Out in Queensway for Witness Appeal
Officers will be handing out leaflets and talking to locals around Dr Power restaurant from 9pm on Monday, 2 September, marking one week since the attack.
