Man Arrested After Major Police Incident Shuts A2 Near Bean for 12 Hours

A 26-year-old man has been arrested following a serious police incident that shut part of the A2 near Bean, Kent, for nearly 12 hours on Sunday (29 June).

Incident Overview

Police were called at around 2.40am over concerns for a person’s welfare near Bean, close to the Darenth Interchange.

Emergency services, including paramedics and officers from Kent Police, responded swiftly, prompting a full closure of all London-bound lanes as the situation was dealt with.

Traffic Disruption

One lane of the A2 remained closed until 4.30pm, with KentOnline reporting extensive disruption in the area as traffic was temporarily held during the early morning hours.

Police Statement

A Kent Police spokesperson said:

“Kent Police was called at around 2.40am on Sunday 29 June to concerns for the welfare of a person near Bean.
Officers and paramedics attended the scene and a man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of a public order offence, assaulting an emergency worker and criminal damage.
A 26-year-old local man was later conditionally bailed to return to the police station on 26 September.”
