Man Arrested After Shutting Down A2 Near Bean for Nearly 12 Hours
A 26-year-old man was arrested following a serious police incident that closed part of the A2 near Bean, Kent, for almost 12 hours on Sunday, 29 June.
Early Morning Drama on the A2
Police were called at 2.40am amid concerns for a person’s welfare near Bean, close to the Darenth Interchange. Emergency services, including Kent Police and paramedics, rushed to the scene. The incident forced a full closure of all London-bound lanes as officers worked to resolve the situation.
Arrest Made Over Multiple Charges
The man, local to the area and aged 26, was arrested on suspicion of:
- Public order offence
- Assaulting an emergency worker
- Criminal damage
He has since been conditionally bailed and is due to return to the police station on 26 September.
Traffic Chaos Lasted Into the Afternoon
One lane of the A2 remained closed until 4.30pm, causing major delays. KentOnline reported severe traffic disruption, especially as vehicles were held during those crucial early hours.

“Kent Police was called at around 2.40am on Sunday 29 June to concerns for the welfare of a person near Bean. Officers and paramedics attended the scene and a man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of a public order offence, assaulting an emergency worker and criminal damage. A 26-year-old local man was later conditionally bailed to return to the police station on 26 September.”
Police Seek Witnesses
No injuries were reported in the incident. However, Kent Police urge anyone with dashcam footage or information to come forward by calling 101 and quoting the incident time and location.
