Kent Police dispersed 74 individuals and made six arrests across Thanet over the weekend as part of a robust operation targeting antisocial behaviour in key coastal towns.
Dispersal orders were put in place in Broadstairs, Margate, and Ramsgate between Friday 27 and Sunday 29 June 2025, following concerns over underage street drinking, public disturbances, and aggression towards retail and hospitality staff.
High-visibility patrols, coordinated enforcement with British Transport Police, and proactive use of CCTV monitoring helped contain incidents swiftly.
Notable Incidents
- Margate: Two teenage girls were arrested for breaching a dispersal order after being seen shouting on a bus. One was found in possession of cocaine.
- Broadstairs: A 21-year-old man had an e-scooter seized and was reported for using it without insurance. Elsewhere, alcohol was confiscated from underage teens arriving by train.
- Ramsgate: A baseball bat was seized, and a teenager was arrested following damage to a York Street property.
- Margate Station: A 17-year-old boy received a dispersal order and community protection warning after causing a disturbance.
In total, 24 people were searched, and officers engaged with multiple groups across the district to prevent escalation.
Police Response and Public Reassurance
Chief Inspector Ian Swallow, District Commander for Thanet, said:
“We hope people enjoying the beaches felt reassured by the work of officers this weekend. Antisocial behaviour is not welcome. By working together with residents, businesses, and partner agencies, we can keep Thanet safe this summer.”
Dispersal orders remain in place until Tuesday 1 July, covering town centres and beach areas, and are subject to review.
