Man with Outstanding Warrant Shot by Kent Police in Hollingbourne

A man in his 30s was seriously injured after being shot by Kent Police officers during an arrest operation in Hollingbourne. The force has confirmed the man had an outstanding arrest warrant. The dramatic incident took place opposite the Park Gate Inn on the A20 Ashford Road and is now under investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

Armed Arrest Operation Ends in Shooting

Kent Police officers attended a property on Ashford Road shortly after 7.15pm on Monday 7 July 2025. They were there to arrest the man on a non-terrorism related warrant. Armed specialists were deployed as part of the high-risk operation.

“On Monday 7 July 2025, Kent Police officers attended a property in Ashford Road, Hollingbourne, near maidstone/" title="Maidstone" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Maidstone to conduct an arrest for an outstanding warrant,” a police spokesperson said. “This was not related to any terrorism offences. During the incident a man in his 30s was shot by officers and was subsequently taken to hospital.”

The man remains in hospital with life-changing injuries.

Bomb Squad Called to Secure Area

Amid safety concerns, the British Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was called to the scene. Thankfully, no explosives were found. However, the A20 Ashford Road remains closed between Chegworth Road and B2163 Penfold Hill while police continue gathering evidence.

IOPC Launches Independent Probe

The incident has been handed over to the IOPC as per protocol following police shootings. Investigators are at the scene and beginning to collect evidence.

“We have begun an independent investigation after a man was shot and seriously injured by Kent Police, who were responding to an incident on Monday 7 July,” an IOPC spokesperson said. “Our investigation is in the very early stages.”

Park Gate Inn Confirms No Link

The Park Gate Inn, located directly across the road, was briefly closed during the police operation. The pub has confirmed it was not involved in the incident and assured the public and staff are safe.

“We want to reassure everyone that nothing happened in the pub itself – all our team are safe and well. We’re simply following guidance to ensure everyone’s safety.”
