Family Pays Tribute to One-Year-Old Jayla-Jean Mclaren After Tragic Death on Isle of Wight

The heartbroken family of a one-year-old girl who died following a serious incident in Newport have paid tribute to her, as police continue their investigation into the circumstances of her death.

Jayla-Jean Mclaren, aged just one, died in hospital on Sunday, 3 August, two days after she was taken in with serious injuries. Police were first called at 11:34am on Friday, 1 August, after receiving a report that a child had been brought to hospital in critical condition.

Despite the efforts of medical staff, Jayla-Jean sadly passed away.

Heartfelt Family Tribute

In a short but emotional message released today, her grieving family said:

“Mummy, daddy, and nanny will always love you. Fly high princess.”

Two Arrested, Released on Bail

A 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, both from Newport, were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. They have been released on conditional police bail while enquiries continue.

Police Appeal for Calm and Information

Detective Superintendent Rod Kenny, who is leading the investigation for Hampshire Constabulary, said:

“First and foremost, our thoughts remain with all who knew and loved Jayla-Jean.
We know emotions are understandably high in the local community following news of this devastating incident.
I want to reassure the community that our investigation remains ongoing, and we are working tirelessly to establish the full facts.”

He also urged the public to avoid speculation:

“While we understand the community concern, we urge people not to speculate on the circumstances as this will cause further distress to those who knew Jayla-Jean and could impede the ongoing police investigation.”
