Floral tributes now mark the grim spot where Alexander Cashford, 49, was beaten to death in Leysdown earlier this month. The sad memorial sits near the Warden Bay pub, close to where his body was found on August 10.

Flowers Left by Warden Bay Pub

Three floral tributes—a bouquet and two dried flower posies—have been tied to a wooden stile overlooking the Warden Bay pub. Alexander Cashford was discovered fatally injured on waste ground between the pub and the beach on Sunday evening, August 10. Despite frantic CPR attempts by passersby, Mr Cashford was pronounced dead at 8.05pm after emergency services arrived.

Three Teenagers Charged With Murder

Kent Police have charged three teenagers over the fatal attack. The suspects include a 16-year-old girl and two boys aged 14 and 15 from London and Essex. They appeared last week at Maidstone Crown Court and were remanded to a youth detention centre. Their identities are withheld due to their ages. They are set to stand trial in January in a hearing that could last up to six weeks.

A 12-year-old girl from Basildon, Essex, was also arrested but has since been released on bail.

Attack Details & Police Appeal

Police say the victim was attacked following an altercation involving stones and a glass bottle. Detectives are investigating a video circulating on social media that allegedly shows the assault. Officers urge witnesses to come forward with any information, CCTV, or dashcam footage. Anyone with details should call 01622 652006, quoting reference 46/139384/25.

Victim’s Troubled Past

Alexander Cashford was born in Minster but lived recently in Gillingham and also had a home near Warden Bay. An inquest opened by Coroner Katrina Hepburn has been adjourned.

In March 2025, Mr Cashford admitted a stalking charge at North Kent Magistrates’ Court and was under a one-month curfew with an electronic tag until September. He also served over three years in jail after pleading guilty to vehicle theft, money laundering, and offences totalling more than £63,000 back in 2015.
