Girl’s Narrow Escape from Would-Be Abductor Near School
A terrifying abduction attempt unfolded just before 12:15pm on Old Road, right by Mayplace Primary School. Police say a man tried to snatch a young girl, but quick thinking saw her sprint straight back to school—safe and unharmed.
Masked Men and Suspicious Van Raise Alarm
Headteacher David Moss warned parents in a blunt letter about the chilling incident. He revealed the suspect wasn’t acting alone. Two other masked men were spotted hanging around a partly black van nearby.
“A Mayplace child was approached by an adult male who attempted to take them,” Moss said. “Thankfully, the child was safe. But we urge parents to stay vigilant and consider alternative routes or supervision for children walking to school.”
Police Hunt Continues as Community Stays on Edge
The Metropolitan Police confirmed no arrests have been made yet as urgent investigations continue. Officers are boosting patrols in Crayford to reassure jittery locals.
“We understand the concern this has caused locally. Anyone with information, including CCTV or doorbell footage, should contact police on 101 quoting CAD 3085/SEP25,” a Met spokesperson said.
