Car Transporter Carrying Nine EVs Erupts in Flames
Emergency crews rushed to the scene at 6.38am on Wednesday when a car transporter hauling nine electric vehicles suddenly burst into flames. The cars are believed to be from Chinese EV giant BYD.
“We were called at 6.38am to reports of a vehicle fire on the M5 between junctions 28 and 29. On arrival, a car transporter carrying nine electric vehicles was fully involved in fire,” said a spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue.
Massive Delays as Clean-Up Underway
- Recovery work and clean-up efforts are ongoing to clear the wreckage.
- Highways England confirmed the motorway will remain closed until the fire site is fully safe.
- Drivers are urged to avoid the area and brace for heavy traffic disruptions.
