M5 Shutdown After Car Transporter Blaze Between Cullompton and Honiton – UKNIP

The M5 is fully closed in both directions between england/england/junction/”>junction/”>junction 28 (Cullompton) and junction 29 (Honiton/Exeter Airport) following a fierce vehicle fire this morning.

Car Transporter Goes Up in Flames

Emergency crews rushed to the scene at 6.38am on Wednesday after a car transporter carrying nine electric cars burst into flames. The vehicles are believed to be from Chinese electric car maker BYD.

“We were called at 6.38am to reports of a vehicle fire on the M5 between junctions 28 and 29. On arrival, a car transporter carrying nine electric vehicles was fully involved in fire,” said a spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue.

Major Delays as Clean-Up Continues

  • Recovery and clean-up efforts are ongoing.
  • Highways England confirm the motorway will stay shut while emergency services clear the blaze safely.
