M3 Motorway closed near Winchester Services follow serious Collision

A major diversion has been put in place following a serious collision involving an overturned vehicle on the M3 in Hampshire this morning. All emergency services are scene dealing with those injured. The diversion is likely to remain during the morning rush. The incident is understood to be near the M3 Winchester services. Drivers are being taken off on to the A303. A large amount of vehicle held in the closure is being assisted by traffic officers from Highways England. A Hampshire Police Spokesman said:”We currently dealing with a serious collision on the M3. The collision involved a car and a van at junction 8, by the Winchester services, on the southbound carriageway. Two people have been taken to hospital with serious injuries. The southbound carriageway is closed at junction 8, as is lane 2 of the northbound carriageway. A diversion is in place. The southbound carriageway is expected to be closed for most of the morning. The northbound lane expected to be opened sooner.
