Pensioner Dies After Being Trapped in Flooded Car in Walsall
A pensioner has tragically died after his car became submerged in floodwaters on Lichfield Road, Rushall, Walsall, in the early hours of Monday morning.
Dramatic Rescue Attempt in Torrential Floods
At around 2.20am, emergency crews rushed to the scene after reports of vehicles stranded in floodwater. Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) battled harsh conditions to reach the victims.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “On arrival, ambulance staff found a flooded road with two vehicles in the water. Firefighters entered the water and located an elderly man trapped in one of the cars. He was pulled out and received advanced life support at the water’s edge before being rushed to Walsall Manor Hospital.”
Tragic Outcome Despite Emergency Efforts
Despite the heroic efforts of HART paramedics and West Midlands Fire Service rescue teams, the pensioner was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at hospital.
A second individual was found in the water but was uninjured. Authorities believe this person was not connected to either vehicle. One of the cars had reportedly been in the floodwater for some time.
Flood Warnings Still in Force – Travel Safely
The flooding follows heavy rain over the weekend, with multiple roads across the region still affected. Officials urge motorists to take extra care and obey all flood warnings.
Stay alert, plan your journey, and never attempt to drive through floodwaters.
