Couple Jailed Over Fatal Lewisham Stabbing
Man Dead After Brutal Attack
A 66-year-old man was stabbed to death in his Lewisham home in a shocking crime. Kerry Donovan, 29, from Southend-on-Sea, has been found guilty of murdering Leroy Junior Edwards. Meanwhile, Aaron Woolcock, 30, of Lewisham, was convicted of manslaughter but cleared of murder. Both face sentencing on 18 April at the Old Bailey.
Family Feud Ends in Tragedy
Donovan and Woolcock, distant relatives of Mr Edwards, visited his Ringstead Road flat on 18 August 2018. An argument turned violent. Mr Edwards was stabbed multiple times before the pair fled. A neighbour heard banging and discovered a chilling trail of blood leading to his door.
Investigation Uncovers Motive and Scene Details
Police forced entry with the London Ambulance Service’s help and found Mr Edwards stabbed, a large knife by his side. He was rushed to hospital but died shortly after. Detectives revealed Donovan faced financial troubles and was a known Class A and B drug user. Her ID was found at the crime scene. Woolcock was caught after CCTV helped track the suspects.
Detective’s Statement on Senseless Killing
Detective Sergeant Brian Jones said:
“We may never know exactly why Mr Edwards was killed. Whatever the motive, this led to the senseless death of a family man of good character in the home where he lived for over 25 years. His family described him as a quiet, non-confrontational man who liked to be at home. Woolcock and Donovan now face the consequences of their actions, and I hope their conviction will give some solace to Mr Edwards’ family and friends.”
