Limerick Package Sparks Explosive Terror Probe Across UK and Ireland
Detectives are zeroing in on a fifth suspected bomb after an improvised explosive device (IED) package was found at a postal depot in Limerick, Republic of Ireland, today (22 March). The find is now linked to four similar packages sent to London and Glasgow earlier this month, police revealed.
UK and Irish Police Join Forces
An Garda Síochána officers are leading the investigation in Limerick, alongside the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command, which heads the London inquiries. Police Scotland is still in charge of the Glasgow package probe. All forces are working closely and sharing intelligence across borders to crack the case.
Fifth Package May Have Been Returned to Sender
“From images and talks with Irish counterparts, it seems the Limerick package is connected to those sent to London and Glasgow on 5 and 6 March,” said Deputy Assistant Commissioner Dean Haydon, Senior National Coordinator for Counter Terrorism Policing.
“One theory is that the Limerick package was returned after failing to reach its intended London recipient.
“We’re determined to identify who sent these dangerous parcels. Enquiries remain ongoing across the UK and Ireland.”
Public Urged to Stay Alert
Authorities remind the public to be vigilant for suspicious packages and report anything unusual. A claim of responsibility mentioned a fifth package on 11 March, but police say motives and culprits are still under investigation.
