Fire crews from Shanklin and Sandown have been called to deal with the high voltage power pole fire that broke out on the Lower Hyde Holiday Park in Shanklin on Saturday evening.

A cordon has been established and part of the holiday park that is full of residents and tourists for the Easter holidays has been evacuated.

Fire crews from the Isle of Wight fire and rescue service are working with Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks to make the area safe.

Hundreds of households across the Isle of Wight have been left in darkness as a result of power pole fire.

The fire has caused an outage on the high voltage network which is affecting homes in Whiteley Bank, Wroxall and Godshill, and surrounding areas

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks spokesperson said that 57 postcodes are affected, most fall into PO38. A further 13 postcodes falling under PO37 are also affected.

We’re sorry for the loss of supply. Our engineers are on site working hard to get the power back on as quickly as possible. We hope that power will be restored to all 700 properties affected by 4am.
