Two Arrested in Guildford Over Shocking Human Trafficking Plot
Two suspects have been snapped up on suspicion of modern slavery and human trafficking after hospital staff at Royal Surrey County Hospital spotted red flags. The drama unfolded last Thursday (16 May) in the maternity ward when a nurse grew wary of a man accompanying a pregnant Albanian woman.
Nurse’s Quick Thinking Leads to Arrests
The alert nurse arranged for an interpreter and quietly gave the woman a chance to share her story away from the suspect. Signs of trafficking soon became glaringly obvious.
More alarmingly, the nurse caught wind of a second suspect heading to the hospital and swiftly alerted the police. Officers quickly swooped, arresting a 28-year-old woman from Godalming and a 26-year-old man from Reading.
Victim Safely Discharged; Investigation Ongoing
Both suspects were released from custody but remain under investigation. The victim has now been discharged and is receiving appropriate care. The hospital staff are being praised for their vigilance and quick action.
