People have been rushed from their homes after a suspected mortar bomb was discovered in a garden close to Barnehurst station, Bexley, on Thursday afternoon.

The Met Police were called to Randolph Close at around 4pm. Officials believe the device had been lying there “for some time.”
A police spokesperson confirmed: “Residents have been evacuated as a precaution while specialist teams deal with the bomb.” A large cordon now blocks off the area as experts work swiftly to make it safe.
