Knife-Wielding Thug Jailed for Stabbing Hero Who Tried to Stop His Supermarket Spree
A 20-year-old knifeman has been locked up for five-and-a-half years after stabbing a good Samaritan who tried to stop him following a robbery at a West Drayton supermarket.
Barry Whittle’s Violent Crime Rampage
Barry Whittle, of Peplow Close, Hillingdon, was sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court on 7 July. He pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm (GBH), multiple robberies, and possession of a knife after a shocking crime spree.
Whittle’s reign of terror climaxed on 17 October 2019 at a Chantry Close supermarket, where he stormed in carrying a knife and stole nine bottles of vodka. When confronted by shop security, the thug threatened them with the blade.
Brave Customer Gets Stabbed Trying to Stop Knife Attack
A man inside the store tried to detain Whittle as he attempted to flee. During the struggle, Whittle stabbed the man in the shoulder. The man’s teenage daughter was also assaulted when she rushed to help. Whittle then fled the scene.
Police revealed Whittle had hit the same shop four other times that month, always armed with a knife or screwdriver, frightening staff and customers alike.
More Crimes Add Up to Lengthy Sentence
Whittle was also caught breaking into a car on Frays Avenue, West Drayton, on 6 October. He used a stolen card to buy goods from a newsagent.
Detective Sergeant Reda Imane said: “A dangerous man will now spend a significant amount of time behind bars. Whittle showed no hesitation in threatening staff or attacking a member of the public who tried to stop him. His sentence should bring some reassurance to the people he terrorised.”
