New COVID Fraud Hotline Launched to Nab Rogue Claimants
The government has teamed up with charity Crimestoppers to launch a brand-new COVID Fraud Hotline. Dial 0800 587 5030 anytime, day or night, completely anonymously and free, to report dodgy claims and scams.
Over 150 Support Schemes Exploited by Fraudsters
More than 150 government COVID aid schemes aim to help those in financial trouble. But some twisted individuals are abusing these funds, illegally pocketing public money meant for struggling families and businesses.
“Many people work hard to pay their taxes, so it’s an injustice that fraudsters are shamefully taking advantage of measures set up to help people during the lockdown,”
said Cabinet Office Minister Julia Lopez.
“We cannot let criminals profit from the COVID crisis, as every pound stolen by fraudsters could be invested in our vital public services. This is why we are urging the public to report any information to the COVID Fraud Hotline.”
Crimestoppers Chief Urges Public to Blow the Whistle
Mark Hallas OBE, CEO of Crimestoppers, warned:
“Fraud against the public purse denies access to vital funds that benefit us all. It’s crucial that anyone who has information or knows someone who has fraudulently claimed Government grants or loans contacts our hotline completely anonymously and tells us what they know.”
“The COVID Fraud Hotline is open 24/7, 365 days a year on 0800 587 5030 or via a secure form at Covidfraudhotline.org. You’ll be doing the right thing to protect taxpayer money from fraudsters.”
Spot the Signs and Stay Vigilant
COVID fraud can be tricky to spot, but keep your eyes peeled for strange buying patterns by companies or individuals, and beware cold calls from people falsely claiming to be government officials offering money.
This hotline aims to shield vital public resources—funded by your taxes—for hospitals, schools, and frontline services. Don’t let crooks cash in while honest people pay the price.
