Brutal Hit-and-Run: Man Jailed for Attempted Murder of Six Men
Andrew Wrigglesworth, 50, of Shirley Avenue, Birstall, has been sentenced at Leeds Crown Court after being found guilty of six counts of attempted murder. The shocking incident happened outside a pub on December 22 last year.
Deliberate Attack Outside Christmas Party
The court heard how Wrigglesworth drove his red Audi A4 convertible at six men following a scuffle outside a members’ club on Bradford Road after a work Christmas party. He mounted the pavement and targeted the men as they stood on foot.
Wrigglesworth then fled the scene at speed in his badly damaged car but was quickly found at his home by police.
One Victim Left With Life-Changing Injuries
- A 43-year-old man was the worst affected, suffering life-changing injuries.
- The other five men were also seriously hurt in the terrifying rampage.
Police Condemn Horrific Attack
Detective Inspector Andrew Cass, Senior Investigating Officer, said: “This was an absolutely horrendous offence. It is barely conceivable that someone would carry out such an outrageous and brutal act, especially against their own colleagues.”
“Wrigglesworth’s actions resulted in six men being literally mown down, with one man injured for life.”
“A jury decided that Wrigglesworth intended to murder all six victims that night. He has never shown any remorse, but we hope the lengthy sentence provides some comfort to those affected.”
