A teenage girl has tragically died in a horror crash involving a minibus packed with sixth-formers in North Yorkshire.
Victim Named: Eleanor ‘Ellie’ Hague, 16
Eleanor “Ellie” Hague, just 16 years old, was killed instantly when a white Mercedes Sprinter minibus smashed into a Hyundai i10 on a rural road in Tadcaster at 12.28pm on Monday.
The minibus was ferrying nine sixth-form pupils aged 16 to 18 from Tadcaster Grammar School and Sherburn High School. Ellie was pronounced dead at the scene.
Crash Details
- The minibus was heading towards Sherburn.
- The Hyundai entered Toulston Lane from Rudgate and was hit.
- One teenage girl suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital.
- Other passengers and the minibus driver sustained minor injuries.
Driver Arrested, Investigation Underway
The 40-year-old woman driving the Hyundai has been arrested and later released on conditional bail after police questioning.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We urge everyone to respect the family’s wish to grieve in private.” They also called for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward immediately.
A Tadcaster town council spokesman added: “Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to all involved in this terrible tragedy, and their families.”

Sir Alec Shelbrooke, MP for Wetherby and Easingwold, said: “Desperately sad to hear that a young girl has died as a result of this road traffic accident in Tadcaster. The thoughts and prayers of our community are with the families of those affected.”
