Fraudster Busted After Two Weeks Lurking in London Van

Ignas Valatka, 35, from Western Gateway, Newham, has been sentenced to six years inside at Snaresbrook Crown Court. The fraudster, caught red-handed by Metropolitan Police’s sharp-eyed Project Servator team, pleaded guilty to multiple counts of identity document possession and fraud.

Van Suspicion Leads to Massive Fraud Haul

On 24 July, officers noticed Valatka acting suspiciously inside a brown van parked unusually in the London Royal Docks. The vehicle had been left there for two weeks. When questioned, Valatka failed to explain his presence or the van’s ownership, raising red flags. He was promptly arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft.

During the stop, officers found a house key marked ‘Poplar’ on him. Valatka claimed it was for a short-term rental, but police later discovered he’d lived at the Western Gateway address for years. When confronted, he lied about his residency and even gave the wrong flat number.

Apartment Search Uncovers £12,770, Fake IDs & Fraud Evidence

A search of Valatka’s flat revealed a sprawling fraud operation:

  • £12,770 in cash stashed away
  • Multiple passports, ID cards, and driving licences – all with his photo but different names and birthdates
  • Bank cards, correspondence, and documents under fake identities
  • Mobile phones, laptops, hard drives, iPads and SIM cards

Valatka was hit with fresh charges of money laundering and fraud by false representation. On his bedroom computer, police found an email from a bank reviewing a £50,000 business loan for a fake company called Leo Foxtons – one of the forged IDs bore the name Leo Foxton.

Met Police Crack Massive Loan Fraud Scheme

Valatka had set up the bogus company in 2018 under false pretexts to commit fraud. Investigations uncovered attempts to secure four other loans totalling £194,000 using fake identities. Despite being grilled by police, Valatka refused to answer questions, opting for silence.

Detective Constable Scott Pounder said:

“Valatka spun lies from the moment we stopped him, hoping to hide his web of deceit. But thanks to Project Servator’s instincts, his fraudulent empire quickly came tumbling down.”

“Our financial investigation revealed ID documents with his photo but multiple fake names, forcing him to plead guilty. This case proves fraud doesn’t pay, and we will continue to crackdown hard on crooks.”
