Warwick Hammer Robber Jack Stopps Jailed for Over Three Years
A 37-year-old man has been locked up after a terrifying robbery in Warwick last year.
Robbery Horror on Chase Meadow
On the night of Tuesday, 10 November 2020, police raced to a store on Chase Meadow following reports of a robbery. Jack Stopps, from Shakespeare Avenue, Warwick, threatened staff with a hammer before fleeing the scene.
Caught Red-Handed with Stolen Goods
Officers quickly tracked Stopps down nearby on Shakespeare Road. He was caught with stolen cash and cigarettes hidden in his trousers. Arrested on the spot, he was held in custody awaiting trial.
Justice Served at Warwick Crown Court
Stopps pleaded guilty to robbery on 17 December 2020. Today, Wednesday 27 January, Warwick Crown Court sentenced him to three years and six months in prison for the violent offence.
A second man, 25, also from Warwick, was arrested during the investigation and remains on police bail.
“I’d like to praise the bravery of the store staff in what would have been a very frightening incident for them, and also the work of our response officers to locate and arrest Stopps,” said Det Con Jag Gill from Leamington CID. “This was a tremendous team effort to promptly investigate this offence and bring it before the courts. Stopps will now face justice for his actions.”
