Kent Police Crack Down on Speeders in National Operation
From Monday 26 July to Sunday 8 August 2021, Kent Police will join forces across the UK in a major crackdown targeting speeders putting lives at risk on the roads.
Speeding: A Deadly Risk
Speeding remains a leading cause of fatal crashes, alongside not wearing seatbelts, drinking or drug-driving, and using phones behind the wheel. Authorities warn drivers that speeding slashes reaction time and increases the severity of crashes.
Heavy Policing and Community Action
- Road Safety Unit officers, supported by roads policing teams and Special Constabulary volunteers, will patrol known speeding hotspots across Kent.
- The Safety Camera Team will be out in force at authorised sites, sending a clear message to drivers tempted to break speed limits.
- Community Speedwatch volunteers will monitor 20, 30, and 40mph zones, educating drivers and issuing warning letters to those caught speeding.
Past Crackdown Stats and Official Warning
During the last national campaign in April 2020, Kent recorded around 10,800 speeding offences — over 500 serious enough to land drivers in court.
Chief Inspector Elena Hall, Head of Roads Policing, said: “Most motorists drive safely, but too many still speed recklessly, putting themselves and others in danger. Vehicles at high speed are deadly weapons. We see enforcement as essential—not just during operations but every day on our roads.”
“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. We regularly work with Kent County Council, Medway Council, and Highways England to educate and keep motorists safe.”
Kent’s message is clear: slow down or face the consequences.
