New Forest Man Jailed for Shoplifting Spree at Southampton’s West Quay

A 35-year-old man from the New Forest has been locked up for 18 weeks after a series of shoplifting offences in Southampton.

Thomas Amos Nabbed for Stealing £2,500 Worth of Goods

Thomas Nathan Amos, who has no fixed address, was found guilty of three counts of theft from shops and one count of assault. His crime spree unfolded between 14 July and 9 August 2021 at West Quay Shopping Centre.

Amos targeted John Lewis on three separate occasions, swiping items totaling over £2,500. The Southampton Magistrates’ Court heard the details before sentencing him.

Sentenced to Jail and John Lewis Ban

On 17 August, Amos was sentenced to eight weeks in prison for the thefts. Additionally, he was hit with a ban preventing him from entering any John Lewis store in England until 16 August 2022.

Previous Suspended Sentence Activated

The judge also activated a previous suspended sentence, tacking on another 10 weeks. That means Amos faces a total jail term of 18 weeks behind bars.
