A driver remains in critical condition following a shocking crash in South Norwood early Monday.
Car Slams Into Tree After Leaving Road
The nightmare unfolded at around 3am on Beulah Hill near Carlton Court, where emergency crews rushed to the scene. Neighbours likened the smash to a “bomb going off.” One stunned witness said, “I was woken from my bed and called emergency services. The person didn’t look too good.”
The car reportedly left the road before smashing into a tree. Initial reports suggested the vehicle caught fire.
London Air Ambulance Rushed to the Scene
Paramedics, including doctors from the London Air Ambulance, treated the seriously injured driver at the site. The victim was then rushed to hospital, where they remain in a critical condition.
Chaos on Local Roads as Bus Routes Diverted
The crash forced police to close Beulah Hill in both directions, causing major disruptions. Several bus routes including the 196, 249, 468, and the night N68 have been diverted away from South Norwood Hill.
Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
The Met Police are appealing for anyone who saw the crash to get in touch. Officers said, “Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call us on 101 and leave their details.”
