Daf James, a Welsh writer, created and wrote the four-part drama series. Gabriel, a singer and artiste extraordinaire at Cardiff’s queer club-space ‘Neverland,’ and his partner Andy are followed as they adopt their first child in the series. But Gabriel has a history, and before he can truly begin to parent 7-year-old Jake, he will need to embark on a journey of self-discovery and attempt to repair his relationship with his father.

Daf’s first original screenplay for the BBC, Lost Boys and Fairies, will begin filming next year. Daf collaborated with Duck Soup Films on the project as part of the BBC Writersroom’s TV Drama Writers’ Programme 2019. The programme allows aspiring screenwriters to collaborate with an indie to write the first episode of a new original series or serial. Daf had previously been a member of the BBC Writersroom Welsh Voices development group.

Lost Boys and Fairies will be set and filmed in Wales, with casting to be announced later.

It means everything to me that this queer, Welsh adoption story has found a home on BBC One,” Daf James says. It’s a story I’m very passionate about, and I can’t thank Duck Soup Films and the BBC enough for allowing me to tell it authentically and without compromise.”

“We are delighted to be bringing the wonderful Daf James’ extraordinary storytelling to a world-wide audience working with the brilliant teams at the BBC and All3International,” says Jessica Brown Meek, Co-Founder of Duck Soup Films.

“Daf’s voice is utterly unique, and this story is full of heart and magic,” says Ben Irving, Acting Director of BBC Drama. We hope it will resonate with almost everyone. We’re thrilled to have been able to help Daf create this beautiful drama through Writersroom, and to now be bringing it to audiences on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.”
