Police Officer Attacked Twice in One Day in Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire police faced two violent incidents in just 12 hours this Thursday. First, officers rushed to a domestic disturbance in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 11 a.m. A woman was reportedly assaulted, and during the arrest, an officer was racially abused.

A 31-year-old man was promptly arrested. Charges include assault, threatening to kill, racially aggravated public order offences, and criminal damage.

Night-time Brawl in St Ann’s Ends with Officer Punched

Less than 12 hours later, around 11.25 p.m., officers responded to reports of a street fight in Booth Close, St Ann’s. While trying to calm matters, an officer was punched in the face, suffering minor injuries.

Police arrested a 32-year-old man on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

Sergeant Slams Attacks on Police

It is completely unacceptable for anyone to physically assault or verbally abuse our officers,” Sergeant Laura McCullough of Nottinghamshire Police said.

“We have said it numerous times, but it is extremely important the public understand that abusing police officers is not okay.”

She added the violent abuse police face is “not part of an officer’s job” and will never be tolerated by Nottinghamshire Police.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with these incidents, but investigations continue.
