Leighton Buzzard Man Simon Newham Jailed for 15 Years Over Horrific Child Abuse Offences
Online Chat Room Monster Busted
Simon Newham, 33, was arrested last October after police uncovered chilling online chats where he detailed his sick fantasies about sexually assaulting children. Officers swooped on his Leighton Buzzard home, seizing five devices packed with indecent images and chat accounts used for vile exchanges.
Disturbing Evidence of Abuse and Grooming
Investigators found conversations between Newham and a woman in Canada sharing indecent images and discussing their disturbing sexual interest in children. Shockingly, Newham repeatedly urged her to sexually assault a child.
He later told police he’d fallen into these dark chat rooms years ago and tried quitting by deleting accounts—only to return weeks later.
Judge Brands Newham ‘Dangerous Offender’
At Luton Crown Court, Newham pleaded guilty to multiple offences including making, taking, and distributing indecent images, sexual assault of a child, and causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
Yesterday, he was sentenced to 15 years and three months behind bars. His Honour Judge Simon KC slapped him with a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order, calling him a “dangerous offender”.
Police Speak Out: Justice Served
“I’m pleased Newham will now be spending a long time behind bars, no longer a danger to children,” said Detective Constable Oliver Fitton from Bedfordshire Police’s Internet Child Abuse Investigation Team.
“Although he admitted to indecent images, he refused to accept full responsibility, forcing us to uncover the terrifying reach of his crimes.”
“Child sexual abuse destroys lives. People aren’t always what they seem—there are many with dark, horrifying secrets. It’s never too late to come forward. Victims will be heard, supported, and we will fight for justice.”
Newham’s Guilty Pleas Include:
- Making indecent images of children
- Taking indecent images of children
- Distributing indecent images of children
- Four counts of sexual assault on a child
- Causing a child to engage in sexual activity
- Causing/inciting the sexual exploitation of a child
- Possession of obscene publications
