Car Wash Boss Busted for Smuggling Albanian Migrants into UK
Luan Braha, 38, ran “The Boss” car wash in Staffordshire while secretly masterminding a migrant smuggling ring. The North Macedonian national plotted with accomplices across Europe to ferry up to 200 Albanian migrants from Belgium to the UK in truck backs.
Charging Over £5,000 Per Migrant and Planning to Drug Them
Braha aimed to rake in more than £5,000 from each desperate migrant. Disturbingly, he even considered drugging passengers — including children — to keep them quiet during the perilous journey from Ghent.
East Flanders Police Join UK in Coordinated Arrests
The West Midlands Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU) cracked the case, identifying Braha as the ringleader. They arrested him last July at his car wash in Newcastle-Under-Lyme. Belgian authorities in East Flanders launched simultaneous raids with the UK team, striking at the heart of the smuggling network.
Jury Slams Braha’s ‘Imaginary’ Defence — Eight Years Locked Up
At Stoke Crown Court, Braha claimed his plans were mere fantasy—never meant to be carried out. The jury wasn’t buying it. On June 8, he was found guilty of conspiring to breach immigration laws. Yesterday, the judge slapped him with an eight-year prison sentence.
“We brought strong and compelling evidence against Braha,” said Detective Inspector Julie Woods of West Midlands ROCU. “He used his car wash as a front to gather support and coordinate the smuggling. We intercepted what he thought were secure chats discussing payments, migrants, and travel plans. Braha showed zero regard for the safety of the people he planned to smuggle.”
