Counter Terror Police Take Over Dover Immigration Centre Attack Probe

Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) has stepped in to lead the investigation after a harrowing incident at a Home Office immigration centre in Dover. The attack occurred around 11.20am on Sunday 30 October. Detectives have been racing to uncover the full story, including what drove the attacker to act.

Firebomb Threat and Sudden Death of Suspect

A lone man hurled crude incendiary devices both outside and inside the immigration centre. His vehicle was soon found nearby, with the man dead inside. Two staff members inside the centre suffered minor injuries.

The suspect has been identified as Andrew Leak, 66, from High Wycombe. Police executed a search warrant at his home in Buckinghamshire on Monday 31 October, recovering digital devices and other materials now under urgent examination.

No Wider Threat, But Investigation Ongoing

Authorities say there is no evidence Leak acted with others, and no broader risk to the communities in High Wycombe or Dover. Detective Chief Superintendent Olly Wright, head of CTPSE, told reporters:

“This was a traumatic incident for everyone involved, and the wider community, and we’re working hard to establish exactly what led to the events on Sunday morning.

“While Counter Terrorism Policing’s involvement can cause concern, I want to reassure the public there’s no indication of any ongoing wider threat at this time.”

“The offence appears to be targeted and likely fueled by some form of hate-filled grievance, though it may not meet the threshold of terrorism.

“At this stage, it has not been declared a terrorist incident, but this status remains under review.”
