Dramatic Rescue at Shoreham Harbour as Rowing Scull Capsizes
Capsized Scull Spotted Drifting Out to Sea
This morning, the National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) at Shoreham spotted a capsized two-person rowing scull with its crew struggling in the water, drifting dangerously out of the harbour with the tide.
Quick Call to Coastguard Saves the Day
Other rowing boats were unable to assist, so the NCI wasted no time alerting the coastguard to the unfolding emergency.
RNLI Lifeboat Rushes to the Rescue
The coastguard promptly paged Shoreham RNLI Lifeboat Station and HM Coastguard Shoreham. By the time the lifeboat arrived, the boat was far outside the harbour. The two people in the water were swiftly rescued and brought back to the RNLI station to warm up.
Upside-Down Boat Towed Back Safely
A coxed four from the local rowing club took charge of towing the inverted scull back to Kingston Beach, bringing the incident to a safe close.
