Mother and Two Toddlers Die in Suspected Arson Tragedy

Fatoumatta Hydara, 28, tragically died after a blaze ripped through a home in Clifton in the early hours of Sunday, 20 November 2022. The fire broke out at 3.17am in Fairisle Close. Though rushed to Queen’s Medical Centre and placed on life support, Fatoumatta passed away on Tuesday morning.

Her Two Young Children Also Lost Their Lives

Her little ones, Naeemah Drammeh, aged one, and Fatimah Drammeh, three, were also taken to hospital but sadly pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Police and fire crews quickly confirmed the fire was started deliberately, sparking a murder investigation.

Man Arrested and Murder Inquiry Underway

A 31-year-old man from Clifton was arrested Sunday night and remains in custody. Police have been granted an extra 36 hours to question him. Detective Chief Inspector Mark Sinski leading the probe described the case as “one of the most horrendous crimes” involving the deaths of two young children and their mother.

“This is a deeply upsetting tragedy and I can only imagine the family’s pain. The woman’s husband and father of the children was not in the UK at the time of the fire. Both he and family members are receiving specialist support during this devastating time.”

He added police are working tirelessly with a large team of detectives and specialists to bring justice for the family. The case is now being treated as a triple homicide.

Community Shocked as Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward

The local area remains stunned by the tragedy. High visibility patrols are in place to reassure residents and police are keen to hear from anyone who was near Fairisle Close between midnight and 4.30am on Sunday.

Detective Sinski urged: “No piece of information is too small. We need the community’s help to piece together what happened.”
