Kent Police and Partners Take to the Streets in Safety Push

Kent Police’s Medway Task Force teamed up with Medway Council, Crime Stoppers, and the Violence Reduction Unit for a “walk and talk” event on Friday 9 December 2022. The mission? To boost safety for women and girls in Rochester town centre.

Safety Tips, Spiking Kits, and Vital Advice Handed Out

Between 4pm and 7pm, officers hit the streets chatting to the public, especially women and girls out and about. They handed out anti-drink spiking products, personal safety gear, and top tips on safe, well-lit routes home — plus info on where to seek help if needed.

The team also gathered feedback from women about safety concerns, feeding the info back to relevant agencies for future action plans.

Police and Council Pledge to Keep Medway Safe

“Rochester continues to be a safe place to live, work and visit, but we understand the concerns women and girls have and are always keen to hear about them,” said Sergeant Sasha Blomfield of the Medway Task Force.

Kent Police is committed to protecting women and girls wherever they are. If you’ve been a victim of violence or any offence, report it straight away so we can help and investigate.”

Councillor Adrian Gulvin, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Resources and Chair of the Medway Community Safety Partnership, added: “Despite the freezing weather, it was fantastic to see the enthusiasm from all partners. We’re proud to work together to make Medway safer to live, work, learn and visit.”
