Nottinghamshire Police Shut Down Crime-Hub Property in Sutton-in-Ashfield
After a year of drug complaints and criminal chaos, Nottinghamshire Police and Ashfield District Council have finally slammed the shutters on a trouble hotspot in Warnadene Road, Sutton-in-Ashfield.
Drugs, Zombie Knives & Crime Found Inside
Officers were repeatedly called to the property over the past 12 months amid reports of drug dealing and disorder. Inspections uncovered Class A and B drugs, drug paraphernalia, and even dangerous ‘zombie knives’ inside the home.
Three-Month Closure Order Enforced
On Friday, Mansfield Magistrates’ Court handed down a closure order locking residents out for three months. No one is allowed inside during this period, or they face arrest and jail time.
Inspector Jon Hewitt, Ashfield district commander, said: “This property had become a magnet for violence and drug crime, causing misery for local residents. The situation was intolerable and we had to act.”
“We have secured closure orders on other problem properties and will keep cracking down to protect our communities. Safety is our priority.”
Council Promises Ongoing Crackdown
Councillor Helen-Ann Smith, Cabinet Member for Community Safety, revealed the council and police are battling back with over £1.3 million to prevent crime and antisocial behaviour in Ashfield.
She added: “Local councillors have been working hard to tackle these issues and improve our neighbourhoods.”
Antonio Taylor, Ashfield’s Community Safety Manager, called the closure “a fantastic win” for residents fed up with crime spoiling their lives—especially with the festive season looming.
More Closures Follow Previous Crackdowns
This latest closure follows two similar orders in August for properties on Collins Avenue linked to drug crime and antisocial behaviour.
With police and council joining forces, Sutton-in-Ashfield hopes to clear out troublemakers and restore peace for good.
