Suspicious Vehicle Stop in Dorset Uncovers Burglary Ring

Police in Dorset have made a significant bust after stopping a suspicious vehicle in Shaftesbury on the evening of Monday, 2 January 2022. While the Force’s firearms unit was involved, officers were not armed during the stop on Matchams Lane.

Cash, Baseball Bat, and Cloned Keys Seized

During the stop, officers searched the two men inside the vehicle and uncovered a large sum of cash, a baseball bat, and what are believed to be cloned vehicle keys along with key-cloning equipment. This raised immediate suspicions of criminal activity.

21-Year-Old Man Arrested on Multiple Charges

A 21-year-old man from the local area was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and being equipped for theft. He is also suspected of involvement in the acquisition, retention, use, or control of criminal property.

Further investigations by Dorset Police’s Rural Crime Team revealed links to 11 non-dwelling burglaries and two fraud offences committed between June and December 2022 across Dorset.

The suspect has since been released on police bail as the probe continues.

“Officers have been working hard to compile evidence in relation to this series of offences and we continue to investigate any links with other reported crimes,” said Sergeant Natalie Skinner of Dorset Police’s Rural Crime Team.
