East Hants Goes Green: Community Unites to Fight Climate Change
Last Wednesday (15 March), East Hants kicked off its bold 10-point plan to tackle climate change with a packed ‘Get East Hants Green’ event at Liss Pavilion.
Local Leaders Rally for Climate Action
The event pulled in top local players, including Hampshire County Council (HCC), East Hampshire District Council (EHDC), Petersfield Town Council (PTC), and the Alton Climate Action Network (ACAN). They shared ideas, swapped best practices, and shaped plans to ramp up community support for future climate moves.
Discussions dived into key issues like home and business energy use, nature conservation, transport, community energy, and partnerships. The message was clear: everyone must work together to make a real difference.
Leaders Speak: Collaboration is Key
“To tackle climate change, we need to work collaboratively across all levels of the community from the county council to the district council and community groups,” said Rob Mocatta, EHDC’s portfolio holder for Regeneration and Prosperity.
Councillor Ken Moon, EHDC portfolio holder for Economic Prosperity, added: “It was great to harness all of the energy in the room. The community groups all speak passionately about the work they are undertaking and councils at every level are playing an active role in supporting them.
“I am grateful to everyone who attended for their time and knowledge in helping bring this agenda to the forefront of everyone’s minds.”
What’s Next for East Hants?
The dialogue sparked at this event will keep going. Local councils and community groups are set to ramp up joint efforts to green East Hants one step at a time.
